Extracurricular Activities

At Accotink Academy By The Sea, we believe in the "whole child" approach to education. In addition to our wonderful brain-based curriculum for both preschool and our elementary program, we offer several after-school activities to continue the educational experience as well as provide different environments, experiential learning, and lots of fun for all of our students.

Preschool Enrichment Programs

Our preschool after-school enrichment programs are taught by Mrs. Donna Southerland, our enrichment coordinator.  Mrs. Southerland has a tremendous educational background in both preschool and elementary arts, sciences, and gifted programs. Each session runs eight weeks, and concentrates on a specific subject which incorporates several different aspects of learning and discovering including hands-on art activities, cooking, drama, creative writing, scientific discovery, and hands-on construction and design.

The beauty of these programs is that the kids have so much fun and get so creative, they don’t even realize they are learning! 

Preschool Enrichment sessions are designed for children ages 3-5. They are on Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:30-1:45pm, and will run continuously throughout the year.

Elementary Enrichment Programs

For children ages 5 and up, Mrs. Southerland offers enrichment programs that truly entice our older students. Discovering space, learning about the Masters of Art History, recreating masterpieces of art and design with a futuristic edge, creating new and exciting ways to play sports- these are just some of the wonderful activities in this program.

The elementary enrichment program combines all modes of learning- visual, auditory, and kinesthetic, in such a way that students are discovering new information and challenging ideas, but also discovering the areas in which they truly excel, and building on those skills with fun, creative activities.

Elementary Enrichment sessions are on Wednesdays adn Fridays from 2-3pm and will run continuously throughout the year.

Dance Programs

Our after-school dance programs, taught by Ms. Missy High, are available to girls and boys of all ages.

Classes for preschool students consist of ballet, tap and dance literature.

Elementary students are offered ballet, tap, jazz and modern dance.

These classes begin after school and run continuously throughout the year.

Spanish Programs

Our after-school Spanish program is taught by Mrs. Monica Sevlever. Classes run continuously throughout the year. Several options are available for both preschool and elementary students:

• Beginning classes, which focus on basic knowledge, numbers, colors, family members, etc. for ages 3 & 4.
• Elementary advanced classes, which focus on conversation, simple sentences, correct pronunciation and a more extended vocabulary for ages 5 and up.
• Fun Fridays: an all-encompassing program which combines art, cooking, games, science experiments and a multitude of Spanish cultural lessons and projects while speaking and learning about the Spanish language.

Before, After, and Extended Care Information

These programs are offered as an extended service of our school day at Accotink. It is the primary goal of our staff to provide a safe, stress-free and enjoyable environment for our students.

Activities will include homework time (if applicable), organized games and activities, art projects, free play, snack and outdoor fun.
